Chat Completions

OpenAI-compatible endpoint — POST /v1/chat/completions.

POST /v1/chat/completions accepts a body exactly like OpenAI's Chat Completions API. No custom fields — just swap model and the base URL.

Request

curl http://localhost:8080/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_tr_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "openai/gpt-4o-mini",
    "messages": [
      { "role": "system", "content": "Be brief." },
      { "role": "user", "content": "What is an LLM gateway?" }
    ],
    "stream": false
  }'

The response is the standard OpenAI format, enriched with two headers:

X-TeraRouter-Provider: openai
X-TeraRouter-Model: gpt-4o-mini

Streaming

Set stream: true to receive SSE — chunks follow the standard OpenAI format:

curl http://localhost:8080/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_tr_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "glm/glm-4.6",
    "messages": [{ "role": "user", "content": "Tell me a joke" }],
    "stream": true
  }'

SSE details (heartbeat, deadline, cross-dialect) are covered on the Streaming page.

Via the OpenAI SDK

import OpenAI from 'openai'

const client = new OpenAI({
  apiKey: 'sk_tr_...',
  baseURL: 'http://localhost:8080/v1',
})

const stream = await client.chat.completions.create({
  model: 'openai/gpt-4o-mini',
  messages: [{ role: 'user', content: 'Hello!' }],
  stream: true,
})

for await (const chunk of stream) {
  process.stdout.write(chunk.choices[0]?.delta?.content ?? '')
}

Choosing a model

The model value doesn't have to be provider/model — you can also use an alias pool name or chain:<name> to let the router pick the provider:

{ "model": "fast" }
{ "model": "chain:heavy-coding" }
{ "model": "anthropic/claude-sonnet-4(medium)" }
